Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR) is a neologism for a perceptual phenomenon characterized as a distinct, pleasurable tingling sensation in the head, scalp, back, or peripheral regions of the body in response to visual, auditory, tactile, olfactory, and/or cognitive stimuli. The nature and classification of the ASMR phenomenon is controversial,[1] though there is a considerable cult following and strong anecdotal evidence to support the phenomenon despite the lack of verifiable data.
Ashley's Definition-
What ASMR feels like to me is goosebumps on the inside massaging every muscle in my body. It pushes out the stress that gets under my skin. It has a light sedative effect. Its as if I were getting an invisible body message. It is very hard for me to fathom someone not being able to feel this. I tried to soak up every moment I could get of it since I was a child. I wish I had stumbled upon these ASMR videos a long time ago.
I have always called this feeling as the diamond feeling. As a child I always imagined this feeling like diamonds under my skin or my skin being made of diamonds. Now that I am older Diamond skin sounds very unconformable but I imagined it soothing as a child. To me the Diamond feeling or ASMR sounds so much nicer than tingles. I hate saying tingles it just sounds so childish to me. I refuse the word tingles but an lot of people like to refer to ASMR as tingles or a tingling sensation.
